History of
Christian Broadcasting Channel
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Christian Broadcasting Channel (CBCFI) began as a
vision in the hearts of a
Christian couple, Mr. Frank Ottesen (a Norwegian) and Mrs. Nelly Ottesen (a
Filipina).
After eight years of preparation both in the
spiritual and in the natural, the couple, together with their six year old son,
came to Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines in 1996, and settled in a rented house.
Mr. Ottesen saw a great possibility of
establishing a Christian Television station utilizing the rented house,
since it was only several meters away from the cable TV network.
With the assistance of some brothers and sisters who share the same burden of
putting up
Christian programs on television, the first Christian television station was
launched publicly on the air.
Named originally as Asian Christian Broadcasting Channel Network (ACBN), it
performed its test broadcast in May 1997,
in Cagayan de Oro City. Later that same year, the name was changed to
Christian Broadcasting Channel (CBC) up till the present,
and now airs international as well as local programs.
Moved by the call of the Lord, the organization
structure was established and the Board of Trustees
registered CBC with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission ( a
government entity)
as a foundation on May 23, 2000. under the New name which is Christian
Broadcasting Channel Foundation, Inc.
(CBCFI), this media ministry has been in operation 24 hours daily on cable TV.
CBCFI is a government- registered,
non-denominational, Christian evangelical oriented foundation, with a
vision of reaching Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao,Philippines, and some parts of Asia,
with God’s Word through television and radio.
